The Gunnison

Today we drove the complete circle around the Gunnison. The views were spectacular!!! The total mileage for today was 277!!!! We pushed, because we wanted to make the complete circle and then just do segments after that. It started off very cool, about 43 degrees!!! However, the day turned out absolutely wonderful with the temps in the mid 70's. We take the Monarc pass over the continental divide. At the divide there is a cable car that will take you to the top. We saw it Sat. and thought it would be great to do one of the days we were here. On the way home we stopped to check the hours. Today is 9/16 - they operate May 15 - Sept 15!!!!!! I can't believe we missed it. We could have gone yesterday when we first arrived here!!! As Doug says, 'we were not meant to do it!!' We are fortunate though, the Aspen are starting to turn gold.
