We are in the desert!

September 8, 2007

The RV got fixed finally!!! We got going about 2PM and arrived at the park around 4PM.

Set out early this morning for Kings Canyon and Sequoia. We did not realize how far we were staying away from the parks. As a result we did not do as much of the hiking that I would have liked. Many of the largest trees required a good hike to see them.

The parks were fantastic, it is hard to believe that some of these trees are over 2,000 years old!!! If you ever wanted to feel small just stand next to one of these wonderful trees!!! There were towering cliffs all over and the longest roller coaster I have ever been on. It took about 2 hours to get over the winding road through Sequoia. We were really glad we did not have the RV with us, we would still be trying to get home!!!

They are having lots of fires not that far from here, and as a result there is a lot of smoke in the air and picture taking was a bit difficult. However, the scenery we saw was awesome.

Tomorrow is going to be a rest day. Since we can now download Bill’s sermons, we will be attending CBC right in our RV!!!

We left early this morning and went to Fresno to pick-up some RV parts we needed. Doug put them on and we left for Mohave.

Arrived at the campground in Mohave early afternoon. We went for a swim in the pool and then relaxed and read at the pool.

After dinner we went for a walk around the park. We are in the middle of the desert. We see mountains of a bit, actually climbed over several to get here. On our walk we could hear the coyotes howling. I am looking forward to investigating the desert more and seeing what minerals I can find.

Tomorrow we will go to Boron, that is where they mine borax. We will take a tour of the mine and the Borax museum. We have paid for three nights here, so won’t leave until Thurs. We have plenty of time to get to the balloon festival.
