The Beautiful CA Coast

August 18, 2007

Woke to another beautiful day. On the way to the coast we came across a whole mountain of beautiful rocks!!!! We stopped on Rt. 199 between Patrick Creek and Gasquet, CA. We filled the front seat of TT!!!!! I have all kinds of plans for these rocks!

Got to the campground late in the afternoon. They had a barbeque dinner that night so we went to it. A couple asked if they could sit with us. As we were talking they mentioned a campground they were at that had a drive-in!! It turned out they were camped right next to us and we had talked with them, but none of us remembered the others!!! What a small world!

Looks like the weather is changing and we will get more typical NW weather for the next few days.

It rained all night and is still overcast. We will stop at the visitor center first and then drive around.

Went down to a mammal rescue and watched baby sea lions and seals. They are so cute and really put on a show.

Then we went down to the beach and watched the sea lions and harbor seals while we ate lunch. Those sea lions sure make a lot of noise!!!

Then we drove through the red woods. They are so amazing. Doug had always wanted to hug a redwood, he finally got his chance!!! It is so interesting how they grow and support each other. They actually nourish each other through their roots. Guess that is why they have lasted for more than 2000 years.

In the evening we took a ride on a back road and watched elk along the road. It is early rutting season and the males half heartedly use their racks on each other. They are interesting animals also.
