May 31st - We stopped at Mitchell, SD for the night. I have always wanted to see the Corn Palace, so this was my chance. When I mentioned this to BarbS yesterday she said “What Corn Palace” and this morning when I spoke with my daughter she said the same thing! I thought everyone knew about the Corn Palace. For those of you that don’t know, the Corn Palace is a stadium building that is covered in corn cobs moss and hay. The first one was built around 10907, this is the third building. Every year they change the design at a cost of about $130,000. We stopped at Wall Drug and had lunch Will tell you more about this place later as we will make a day trip to it.
June 1st - We stayed the night at the same RV Park we were in last time we were here. It is called Horse Thief and is nestled in the woods and mountains. We both felt it was like we were just here, we are even in the same spot!! Finally get to Custer Park today. Will fill you in later.
Well, our first day here and we are really glad we came. Checked into our campsite and then went up to the office to see what our responsibilities would be. There is quite a large manual for us to read. We were given a great reception and made to feel wanted.
Started reading the manual this afternoon.. After dinner we went for a short ride and were delighted to see buffalo and a lot of deer. They just don’t pay any attention to people. We stopped the car to take some pics and the just kept right on eating!! The weather was bright any sunny in the morning, but as the day progressed the storms came in and brought cold temperatures. We had to put the heat on in the car on our way back from our ride tonight.
The big drawback is we do not get phone reception or wifi. We have to go up the road to one of the lodges. So, I will try and get this updated as often as I can. Doug is feeling better from his cold, and I an now fighting it. Have been taking Zicam like crazy!!!
