We are back in the US!!!!!

August 3, 2007

We only drove about 70 miles and we are now back in the US!!! Can’t tell you how great it feels to be back here. Not sure what the problem was, probably the fact that I didn’t feel I could pick up the phone and call my family or friends whenever I wished.

We are in Washington state and were lucky to find the spot we have. Seems everyone is on vacation. We are staying at Lighthouse by the Bay in Birch Bay, WA

It took us about 1 ½ hours to get through the border, the line was extremely long. The weather is marvelous, sunny, no humidity and about the mid 70’s!!! Can’t do much better than that!! Still working on our next leg, we would like to drive down the coast, but there is also a lot in land that we would like to see. Will play it by ear.

After getting settle we went into Bellingham to do some shopping. Prices were so high in BC we saved a lot for the US.

We are in culture shock!!!! We left home so early that we were ahead of most vacationers so we had any RV spot we basically wanted, then we were in BC, Yukon and Alaska where there is so little traffic. Now we are in the midst of tons of traffic and roads that go every which way!!! Amazing how fast you can get away from this and get used to it.

We are unable to find a park, so will stay at a Wal-Mart tonight.

Went to the Boeing museum and factory tour this afternoon. What an interesting time we had. We go to see them assembling a 777 and the newest 787 Dreamliner. The 787 is the newest, they haven’t even finished one yet. There are seven orders for the new production and only two US companies, Northwest and Continental will be getting one of the first off the production line. Edie, can you get me a pass on the first flight!!!!!! Had a little bonus in that there was a boat show in Seattle and there were 4 F15 fighter jets doing a fly over and they did one for us, flying almost eye level as we stood on the roof of the building. Doug really appreciated that.

Day is overcast but we will try and do one of the scenic drives around two of the San Juan Islands. They are the only two you can get to by vehicle. Started out on that yesterday and got sidetracked by the Boeing tour.

Was a great day. Weather cleared up and it was beautiful. We drove around the only two San Juan Islands that are accessible by car. We took a ferry over from the south and drove over the bridge in the north. There are 700 islands. These two are almost connected, but are so different.

One, Whidbey, is larger and has a lot of farm land with hills and bluffs, beautiful lush forests and marvelous views. The other one, Fidalgo, reminded us of south Jersey in parts and New England in others. It also had very large rocky mountains and cliffs. It was very hazy so I am not sure just how good the pics will be, but we really enjoyed ourselves.

Got back to the RV and as it did last night, the low sun made it very hot. We turned on the generator for the AC and Doug is having trouble with it again!!!! Not a happy camper!

On top of that, he developed a kidney stone! He believes he passed it and does feel a little better. I am forcing liquids!!

We are heading for Seattle tomorrow. I want to see the Space Needle and the Underground City – Doug could do without any of it!!! Please pray he gets the AC fixed!!!
