Got up to 47 degrees!! Guess their summer is over!! Weather is clear and sunny, so will drive down to Skagway today.
What a beautiful drive!!! We were told the trip would be worth while and it sure was. The different mountain ranges are magnificent. There is a section they call moon scape as it looks like you would imagine the moon would be. It was created by a stagnant glacier, very interesting.
Skagway was just about what we had expected, nothing but gift shops and loaded with cruise ships. There were so many ships in the harbor they put out a blue haze from their smoke stacks that filled the valley. Guess the locals feel it is worth the environmental problems for the money they bring in. We were glad to get out of there, but not sorry we went.
On the way out we took a side road, Dye Rd, dirt of course!! It lead to the site an old mining town that you can’t even see anymore. Amazing to think there had been up to 10,000 residents about 100 yrs ago, and now you can’t even see where it had been. Another nice ride.
We also did the suspension bridge. Doug was sure I would chicken out, as heights tend to bother me!!! I did well, but it really didn’t swing that much. We were there early in the morning, so there weren’t very many people on it. The guide told us that when kids get on it they can really get it going!!! Glad they weren’t around!!!
Took tons of pictures as usual!!! I stopped taking them so then Doug would stop and take them himself!!! I’m the one that has to label and file them at night!!!
We will leave for Atlin Lake tomorrow. We are told that it is also beautiful. Hope the weather hold for us!!
