Back in Tok

July 2, 2007

It is overcast this morning and we will go into Delta Junction to see if I can find wifi someplace and post my blog.

Found a store that let me use their wifi so posted blog, but didn’t have time to do anything else. I don’t do a lot of direct emails to friends and family because I am usually short on time when on-line. So, don’t feel bad if I don’t email you directly.

There are a couple of roadhouses in and near Delta Junction. They were very interesting and still had a lot of the original items in them. Lots more RV’s on the road going north!!

Don’t know if we will stay here tomorrow or move on. Will decide in the morning.

Decided to move on toward Paxson and the other end of the Denali highway. Got less than 50 miles down the road and found a really nice state campground. It sits in a valley and we can see the mountains from our site. There is also a stream that runs behind the site.

We took our panning things and bucket of dirt and sat in the stream. It was so nice and quiet. Haven’t found any gold yet, but have really enjoyed the relaxation of panning. There is a river behind us also that has been diked. We walked along the top of the dike, it was just beautiful. The flowers still amaze me.

We were able to have a fire tonight and really enjoyed the camp.

Setting out today for Paxson, leaving the RV at camp and taking TT. What a beautiful ride. There are mountains, rolling hills and glaciers along this road and giant Queen Anne Lace!!!

Don’t know how far we are going to get today, we stop every few hundred feet to take more pictures!!.

Well, it took us 2 ½ hrs. to go 53 mi. to the Denali hwy. Then it took us 4 hrs. to go in 40 mi and back out. We saw some awesome scenery. The other half of the Denali was very similar to the Park. Unfortunately we did not see any wildlife. But as usual there were lots of flowers!!! We have decided that God gave Alaska these beautifully colorful flowers to make-up for their long dark cold winters!!!

When Doug drives more than 45 miles an hour I can’t see much of anything. Guess he has seen enough for today – it has been a long ride!!

This was another catch-up day. It was cold and nasty, rained most of the day. We spent it doing a few things around the RV and then reading. A relaxing day.

Today we are headed for Tok. It is about 54 degrees here this morning and trying to rain again. It looks brighter in the direction we are going. We are thinking this is just a rainy area, as it has rained at least part of every day we have been here. It was nice and quiet though as we had the park to ourselves most of the time.

Well, we are back in Tok. We were here last on May 14th. There is a lot more open here that the last time. The weather has been off and on with rain and the temps between 55 and 60 degrees.

We have gone to the same campground that we stayed at in May, Sourdough. It is a lot more crowded than the last time!!!!

We plan to drive up to Chicken tomorrow. There are about 9 people that live there, but it is on the way to Eagle on the “Top of the World” highway. Not a good road, but it will be an experience!!

This park has a lot of entertainment that we are not used to, will probably only stay two nights and then go to another state park. We can’t have a fire here!!
