Sorry for the long absence!!!

June 2 & 3, 2007

The park is very nice so we plan on staying through Tues. night when Chip gets here and then drive up to Healy.

Saturday we hiked around the area the area in the morning and spent the afternoon visiting with another camper who was from CO. He was waiting for his family to fly in Sat. evening. It was a very relaxing day.

Sunday we drove into Anchorage – my computer just about gave me a heart attach. I could not turn it on. Seems it was just a power glitch and the battery would not charge or let the power through. Just had to take the battery out and put it back. I was SO relieved!!! While there we did so shopping in preparation for Chip. Our storage is so limited we need to shop frequently. The day was just beautiful, in the upper 60’s.

The day is very rainy, don’t know if it will stop this afternoon. We would like to pan the rest of our sand before we leave, but don’t want to sit in the rain to do it!!

It was a miserable rainy day today. Did a few things around the RV and spent the rest of the day reading up on where we are going next.

The sun is shining and it is very cold. Chip comes in tonight and we leave tomorrow for Danali. It would be nice if it warmed up some, I am getting tired of being cold all the time!!! I am sure when I get back home I will wish for some of this cooler weather!!!

Chip arrived last night right on time. We drove to Healy today. A long ride, but very pretty. We go to an overlook for Danali, but as usual it was clouded over. They say it is only visible about 65 days a year!!

We get up early in the morning to catch the 7AM tour bus of Danali.

June 7, 2007

We took the tour bus of Danali and as usual, it was rainy and terribly cold. We saw no animals up close. One grizzly in the distance and lots of caribou, also at a distance. It was an 8 hour bus ride and by the end we were all ready to get off!!!.

We were so disappointed that we did not get to see Mt. McKinley, but not surprised.

After the bus trip we took off for Fairbanks so we could catch the plane early in the morning for the Artic Circle. What a long day, I just could not wait to get to bed!!!

June 8, 2007

Had to be at the airport by 6AM. The weather was great when we took off. The flight was about an hour and it was another reminder of how large and vacant this state is. We flew over the Arctic Circle to the town of Coldfoot. We were then driven to the small village of Wiseman, that has 13 families living in it. It is 15 miles up the Dalton Hwy. from Coldfoot.

There is a man there that told us about living in the bush of Alaska. He was so interesting we did not want to leave. He lives off the land and told how he hunted and trapped to survive. We were really amazed when we met him. We were all expecting an old man with a big beard and long hair. Jack is extremely intelligent and very well read. He could write a book!!

While we were there it started to rain, something different!!! We took off in the rain, but flew out of it rather quickly and had clear sky after that.

We spent the rest of the afternoon driving around Fairbanks and trying to get a view of ‘the mountain’.

June 8, 2007

The weather today is absolutely wonderful. Bright, clear and sunny. We drove back to Healy.

After we parked the RV we took another ride into Danali Park to try and get a glimpse of the mountain. We drove out to the viewing spot that the bus driver had pointed out and were so disappointed when we still could not see the mountain. We were driving back out of the park, going over a hill and all of a sudden there it was in the distance. We were SO excited. Not many people get the wonderful view we did. We took tons of pictures. I think it made Chip’s vacation!!!

Tomorrow we will go back toward Anchorage and go to Portage and maybe Seward to Exit glacier, depending on time. Chip leaves the next day.
