Thunderbird Falls, Palmer, AK

May 17, 2007

Overcast and dreary today. Rode around Palmer this morning and plan to go to some waterfalls this afternoon.

Went to a really nice water fall. It was dizzling, but we decided to take the two mile hike anyway. It was a very nice hike. Some of it rather steep and hard on Doug’s knees, he asked if I had my cell phone with me as I might have to call 911 and have him carried out, but he did very well. It meandered through the woods and ended at Thunderbird Falls.

The temp is in the 50’s, but is sure feels colder than that!!

The day started out overcast so we decided to go to Anchorage and look at indoor things. Went to the Ulu Factory. In case anyone does not know what a ulu is, it is a curved chopping utensil. We expected to see the manufacture of the knives, but only saw the final polishing and assembly. It was mostly a big gift shop!!

We then went to the Federal Alaskan Land Management building. They have great displays of the wild life and show lots of different films on the wildlife in Alaska. The personnel could not have been nicer and more informative. When we came out the sun was shining!!! It was late so we decided to wait until tomorrow to do the Hatcher Pass and the musk ox farm.

I just don’t seem to beable to get warm. The locals are all going around in short sleeve t-shirts and I have sweats and a jacket on and am still cold!!! It is light until about midnight and then the sun is up at least by 5am. It always surprises me when I wake during the night and think it is morning!!!
