It rained during the night, but was clear this morning. We are headed to Butte today. There is a ghost town I would like to see. It is very windy so not sure how far we will get.
Stopped for gas a someone told us they had a lot of snow in Yellowstone last night. I called for road conditions and at 8am for 16 miles east of Butte there was snow on the road and chains required!! We are keeping track and if necessary we will stop at a campground for the day.
Just check and as of 9am for 16 miles east of Butte the road is slushy. We are about 35 miles east . The scenery is just wonderful again. We are getting back into the mountains. We seem to go from surrounded by mountains to valley with mountains in the distance. It is so different from our flat tropical Florida!!!
We are climbing an eight mile grade. Everything is covered with a fresh dusting of snow. There is slush on the road. We are stopping at a rest area to have breakfast (nice to have our home with us). It is so beautiful, there are snow flurries in the air. Nicholas and Ana, you would just love this!! Wish we could bring some of it home with us.
In just the few minutes we stopped a very fine heavy snow started! Cars coming from the other direction were covered with snow. Pulled out and got down the mountain fine, but you can see it is really coming down up there. Don’t know just how far we will get today. I really don’t want to be driving in the snow!!
We drove in and out of rain and snow showers all day. Covered more miles than usual, but there was no reason to stop. Did not go to the ghost town as the weather was so nasty we did not want to walk around. We have stopped at St. Regis, MT and should be in Spokane, WA tomorrow. Then we have to decide how we are going to go to Alaska. There are only a couple of routes, so we need to make up our minds. Doug is thinking he wants to spend as little time in CA as possible as everything is so expensive. However, a lot of people have told us we should go through Banff. We will look at the map tonight. This part of the country is magnificent. Only ha
