Palmer, AK

May 16, 2007

Doug reminded me this is our anniversary - on the road that is, we have been on the road for 1 month today!!!

Traveling from Glenallen to a least Palmer today. Again we are just amazed at the vast amount of open space. You can seer for miles with valleys full of pines and mountains in the distance. Road is OK, spots of heaving and roughness, but not too bad.

Temp is in the low 50’s, hasn’t changed since we got up today.

One thing that we have noticed about the majority of house have junk yards around them. We see a lovely home, but it will sit right in the middle of a junk yard. As Doug says they live so far out they never know when they might need something so I guess they never throw anything out and collect a little of everything!!

As we approach Palmer we are noticing the leaves are greener, looks more like spring. The temp has risen to 66 degrees. I think this is the warmest we have had since being in Alaska. Really beautiful windy mountain roads.

Weather deteriorated as the day went on. Rained most of the afternoon after we arrived in Palmer. We have decided to stay here for a week and take side trips. Then we will move into Anchorage and wait for Chip to arrive.

The park is right at the fool of the mountain and has a beautiful view. Saw our first moose along the road when we went into town to shop.
