BC Second Day

May 5, 2007

I was just remembering my dad. Today would have been his 109th birthday!! The day is clear and bright, temp 38 degrees when we got up. At least its not raining or snowing!!

It was a really beautiful drive today. We did not make many miles as we were climbing the mountains, but we really enjoyed the scenery. BC is just beautiful. The weather could not have been better for us, and we ranged from 38 degrees to a high of 55 degrees. We saw more forest that had been burned off over ten years ago with very little regrowth. Doug says we see both sides of the land- the land is so steep!!!

We stopped at the town of Merritt, BC. Took a ride around the town and believe it or not, we could not find a church. There are none listed in the paper and the park could not direct us!!!!! It has a very fascinating wood mill though. We were wishing they had a tour to see the process. We also realized that this is a very dry area, like our high desert. I have never seen pasture land irrigated until today. There were cattle grazing as the fields were being watered - amazing!!! We also saw tons of wineries, apple orchards and cherry orchards. We find it fascinating to see what the different areas rely on to survive.

This is a very nice RV part and we thought about staying a couple of days, but there is not that much to see here, so will continue on tomorrow.

We have driven through some very steep mountains. The scenery is great and it is interesting how dry it is. I just never thought of BC as having so much desert.

Did not drive long today, the road is very winedy and narrow so we don’t go very fast. Stopped at McKleese Lake. The pics will show how nice it is. The gas and RV parks are astronomically more expensive than the states. I am trying to ignore this!!! I have been sporadically able to get through to my children on the cell, so have used our calling card. Just realized how expensive that is. We had 675 min and I made a call to Nicholas on his birthday and spoke for about 10 min, when I called Chip tonight I had about 58 min left!!!! Gas is about $5.60 per gal.!! As Chip keeps telling me we should not worry about it, we have looked forward to this for too long!!!

We will try to get to Prince George tomorrow, trying to get through CA as quickly as possible!!!

We are really enjoying our time together. The lack of commitment is wonderful!!! However, I also miss my friends and family.

Will post this and hope to get on line again soon. Please email me when you can.
