Took off early today and planning on driving to Liard Hot Springs. The people we met last night said they are really nice.
They also told us we were getting into the pretty part of the highway. I am sure they are right but we drove through so much snow and fog this morning we could not see the vistas that are described in Milepost Magazine. That is a great magazine, tells what is at each milepost. However, most of the mileposts are not up so it is sometimes difficult to tell where we are. The GPS helps a lot.
We were in a winter wonderland this morning. It was beautiful, just could not see in the distance.
This afternoon is clear and we are seeing LOTS of wildlife. Have taken so many pictures t is going to take me forever to just label them all.
Have not been able to up load pictures and am wondering if I have reach a limit on the blog. If so, I will start another one. Will keep you posted.
We stopped at Liard Hot Springs. The people from the campground were here. The air temp was 45 degrees and the springs were about 100. We decided not to go in and keep going to Watson Lake. It will be late when we get there, but it stays light quite late. We are confused about the time again??? I think we lost an hour!!!!
When we stopped at the springs we were talking with one of the people that worked here at the lodge and campground. We asked what gas was and he said “I only work here, please don’t judge me by the price”. This was not the first time we had people asking us to for give the “gouging”. The gas was 2.28 per liter. We just stopped at a station about 50 mi away and the price is 1.14 per liter!!!! I let the gentleman that said that to me know, it was not particular to his country, there were people in all countries that take advantage. Most of the people we have met have been wonderful.
Doug just spoke with the person at the station and he said they just discovered an oil field up here that would supply the WORLD for 40 years and it is all being shipped to Japan and China. The locals are so upset that they are producing oil and paying more that we are!!!
My heart palpitates when I realize we have just spent $330 on gasoline today!!! I am not going to let this get to met!! We are not at all sorry we took this trip. It will be good for us to read later and for those of you reading this blog!!!!!
At times we are able to see the cloud formations and realize the wind currents - it is fascinating.
We had
