The Big Fall!!

Well, here we are finally out of Golden and about 50 miles west of Colorado Springs. Deep in the mountains with a wonderful view. The route here was not all that easy!!! We had been camped at the same campground through Labor Day and basically did nothing so we did not have to deal with crowds. Finally on Tues. we decided to go for a hike up the north table outside of Golden. We were told there was a quarry there with some real good rock hunting!! We climbed a VERY primitive trail without thinking that if there was a quarry there would have to be a road to get the rock down!!! We got almost to the top and the only thing we saw where some mountain climbers (we thought). The trail started to get more narrow and more rugged as we went, so we decided there was no quarry and we would turn around and go back. We had only gone a few feet when my right foot slipped on loose stones - it went out in front of me and the left one went UNDER me!!! The pain was so bad I was sure I had broken it. We tried to figure out a way to get me down and finally decided we had to call 911 - how embarrassing!!! I kept asking God to please send me capable help!! While we waited for them two climbers came up to join the group ahead of us. The one asked if I was alright and I told him I thought I had broken my ankle but I had called 911. He said "Well we are the Special Forces Medical Unit up here training!!! We can take care of your ankle" They made a wonderful splint for me and by the time the fire dept. got there they had it taped and stable. The fire dept. brought a rescue sled with one big wheel. It took them about an hour to get me down the trail. It we the most frightening ride I think I have ever had. They were all so nice and worked so hard to get me out of there. Who says God does not answer prayers!?!? As it turned out, I have a very bad sprane and am now in a large walking boot. Most everyting I want to do has hiking involved, which is rather difficult right now. We are planning on spending about a week here and if my foot is not a whole lot better by then, we will head home. The picture of me shows the trail on my right! It was taken just a few minutes before the fall!! The picture of Doug shows how high we were!!

Barb,

Sorry to read about your fall, and hope you don't have to shorten your trip. We loved the scenery also, and felt it was the best trip we ever made.

Obama was also a community organizer, and Palin commented that I suppose that's like being a mayor in a small town but without any responsibility. Can't wait till she takes on Biden. She has a great Christian background.
